TK-Kindergarten

St. Isidore School provides full day Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten (K) programs.

Transitional Kindergarten, TK, is the beginning of your child’s elementary journey! It is our mission to nurture the whole child, spiritually, academically, emotionally, and socially as they grow. TK is a wonderful opportunity for students to acquire academic confidence before entering Kindergarten. This bonus academic year is also a gift of time for students who need more time maturing socially and emotionally. TK is a bridge from preschool to Kindergarten. It is our mission to help your child build a foundation that will foster a love for learning to carry them through each grade year and beyond.

Our Kindergarten and TK programs are designed to lay a solid foundation for future work in the upper grades. We work to establish a standard of excellence that promotes a love of learning and a command of language. We spend the bulk of our time nurturing the ability to think about and discuss stories. We accomplish this through dramatic play, encouraging imaginatively placing themselves within a certain historical period, memorizing stories, rhymes, and verses, and developing a sense of 'noticing' things and paying attention.

Math is taught through experience using the Singapore Math philosophy of learning through concrete and pictorial means. This builds a solid foundation for students, who then move to more abstract thought and development. This Math program complements a developmental thinking process conducive to successful problem solving.

All learning at this developmental age is sensory, focusing on seeing, listening, hearing, and touching. Homework is focused on practicing narrations and memorization. Character formation, through the Education in Virtue program, is a family endeavor which deeply involves parents in the raising of their children by raising behavioral standards and expectations toward what is noble and high. Children also have the opportunity to participate in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS). CSG is a wonderful religious education program that was born from the joy of children in their encounter with God. The students, guided by a teacher, spend time in a specially prepared environment called an atrium where they explore scriptural and liturgical themes.
